Looking Ahead: Healthcare Trends for 2026

A magazine editor recently asked me an interesting question: What's the biggest trend, challenge, or opportunity I see for my practice and my patients in 2026?
My answer might surprise some people.
What's Old Is New Again
If 2025 has taught me anything, it's that we're witnessing a cycle I've seen before: "What is old is new." I expect 2026 will bring a wave of repackaged techniques, therapies, and methods dressed up with modern marketing gimmicks. But truly novel approaches? I'm not seeing them on the horizon.
Instead, I find myself called back to the fundamentals — rereading and mastering the techniques I learned 35 to 45 years ago. Cranial adjusting, visceral reflex therapy, and functional medicine (or what we used to call wholistic care) are proving their timeless value once again.
The Rise of DIY Medicine and Specialization
One unmistakable trend is the growth of DIY medicine. Patients are more empowered and informed than ever, which means we need a clearer vision for our areas of specialization. Generic care won't cut it anymore.
The Human Element in an Age of Technology
As competition increases, success will ultimately hinge on two things: establishing genuine patient trust and finding the right balance between human touch and machine interaction. Technology can enhance care, but it can never replace the connection between practitioner and patient.
Still Passionate After All These Years
Here's what keeps me going: my passion for both the work and the learning never stops. After 45-plus years in this field, I still have a long-term vision — I'm in this for the long haul.
The future of healthcare isn't about chasing the newest trend. It's about remembering what works, deepening our expertise, and never losing sight of why we started this journey in the first place.
