Chronic pain conditions like sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome can be debilitating, and conventional treatments don't always provide adequate relief. Research on palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) offers hope for those struggling with these nerve compression syndromes.
PEA is a naturally occurring lipid compound that has been studied since the 1970s in over 30 clinical trials involving approximately 6,000 patients, with a focus on its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties.
What Does the Research Show?
In one significant double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 636 patients with sciatic pain, PEA demonstrated impressive results: the number needed to treat to achieve 50% pain reduction was just 1.5 after 3 weeks of treatment. This is a remarkably strong response compared to many conventional pain medications.
Across eight clinical trials involving 1,366 patients with nerve compression syndromes, PEA proved both effective and safe. Importantly, researchers have noted that no significant drug interactions or troublesome side effects have been reported.
Expert Perspective
Professor Jan Keppel Hesselink, a prominent Dutch pain specialist, has shared his extensive clinical experience using PEA in thousands of patients with severe chronic pain, particularly those suffering from sciatic and carpal tunnel syndrome.

Dosing Recommendations
Based on clinical evidence, I recommend starting with EuroMedica PEA 600 mg twice daily for one month. If you don't experience adequate pain reduction at this dose, increase to 1,200 mg twice daily for two months.
PEA can be safely taken alongside other pain medications and has shown effectiveness even in cases where other treatments have failed.
Why Consider PEA?
Unlike opioids and many conventional pain medications, PEA offers pain relief without addiction potential or central nervous system side effects. It works by addressing the inflammatory processes that contribute to nerve pain, offering a different mechanism of action that may benefit those who haven't found relief with standard therapies.
