Improving posture is absolutely the cornerstone of experiencing good range of motion in your fascia and joints and helps decrease musculoskeletal pain. The exercises you choose and the way you position your body during exercise either helps to improve your posture or it harms your posture and creates stress on the fascia and joints.

Maintaining optimal (neutral) posture is especially important for the fascia during your exercise program. Be mindful of having the intention of improving posture especially while standing, sitting, sleeping, and exercising. Taking care of the fascia will give you a little extra edge that helps reduce pain, stay flexible, and slow down joint aging! Even though good posture has always been a symbol for confidence, vigor and poise, there is much more to optimal posture than looking good.

Keeps Your Body In Alignment

Body posture changes when you become aware of the way you sit and stand. Poor posture gives your brain a message to either shorten certain muscles or lengthen certain muscles. Either way, too short or too long, when muscles and fascia are not in a neutral posture they weaken. These repeated messages over time create tiny structural changes, and slowly over time begin to shift the alignment of your major joints such as your neck, shoulder girdle, spine, pelvis, knees and ankles.

Crucial For Your Fascial Gliding

Guess what happens when you are not properly aligned? Your body must expend much more energy to counterbalance the pull of gravity. We are always resisting gravity and the environment is always taking water out of our body. This not only dehydrates the fascia and muscles, it results in the common neck, back and shoulder pain, headaches and tiredness, because your muscles, ligaments and joints are not gliding properly and they take on extra load. Fascia begins to tighten and joints in the spine lose range of motion. You feel stiff and achy. This extra load and irregular stress can lead to osteoarthritis and degenerative bones.

Who would have ever thought that poor posture can speed up the aging process!

How? Someone who is slouched all day will be compressing his or her body organs, which leads to lack of blood flow and therefore less oxygen being carried to your organs. Oxygen plays the critical role of maintaining the health of your major body organs and your major body organs are what keeps you alive and functioning.

Poor posture over time causes herniated disks and degeneration of discs. When your disks become ‘bulged’ or too thin, your brain and central nervous system no longer are able to send the proper signals from your nerves to your muscles and joints. This means you will not be able to perform your everyday activities as efficiently and there will be uneven loads on the fascia, muscles and joints. They simply wear out faster than they should.

“Stand up tall!”

Standing up tall could improve your breathing, circulation, energy levels and maintain healthy organs. All of which help lower stress levels. Improving posture decreases stress!

Most medical complaints such as headaches, neck pain, back pain, knee pain and depression can easily be corrected by improving your posture through awareness. At Los Angeles Fascia Institute we do hands on fascia therapy along with TECAR therapy, laser, pulse wave therapy, True Relief products and exercise to help you establish good posture.

I know being told “It’s a posture problem” sounds simple but before you start taking pain pills and spending money on MRI’s, I recommend simple posture improvements because these are going to still wind up being part of the long-term solution.

Next time you go to the grocery store or mall, take notice of others walking around you. You will see people who walk hunched over, and slouched – they appear beaten down by life. Now look at people who walk tall and sit up straight – they appear powerful and confident. You can imagine the difference this makes in personality and how others react to them. Walking around slouched and rounded forward is not a youthful look.

Los Angeles Fascia Institute is here to help you reduce pain, stay outgoing, feel self-assured, feel more upright, and be strong.
